Bejan Matur
Writer in Residence January - February (Türkei)
Born in 1968 in the ancient Hittite city of Kahramanmaraş, Turkey. She is a pioneering figure in the contemporary poetry of her homeland. Her poems have been translated into 44 languages and honored with numerous awards. She has been a guest at countless conferences and festivals in many countries. In addition to poetry, she writes articles and essays, and to date has published a total of 11 books, 9 of which are poetry collections.Her poetry accompanied by music has been presented to wide audiences on prestigious stages such as the Royal Opera House, King's Place London, and Princeton University. In 2012, her book How Abraham Abandoned Me(Arc 2012) was selected by the Poetry Book Society, founded by T.S. Eliot, as the "Recommended Translation for Spring 2012." Bejan Matur holds a degree from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University and currently lives in Berlin and Istanbul.
