Writer in Residence
The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) programme of Lower Austria, launched in 2000, offers international authors the opportunity to live and work in Krems an der Donau for five weeks as a Writer-in-Residence. As a project partner of AIR, the Literaturhaus NÖ selects fellows from the field of literature.

Since the programme’s inception, more than 250 writers have been guests in Krems, among them well-known literary figures such as Lily Brett, Olga Tokarczuk, Yurii Andrukhovych, Serhij Zhadan, Georgi Gospodinov, Katja Lange-Müller, Jaroslav Rudiš, Dubravka Ugrešić, Dzevad Karahasan, Paolo Rumiz, and Michal Hvorecký.

In addition to these established names, the residency is also aimed at promising emerging authors, providing them with a place to live and work.

Furthermore, the Literaturhaus NÖ organises international exchange programmes with partners including with Switzerland (in cooperation with AdS, residencies at Villa Sträuli in Winterthur), Hungary (Pécs), Slovakia (High Tatras), and the Czech Republic (Brno). These partnerships enable authors from Austria and the respective partner countries to undertake funded residencies.
